Marchi & Fildi and ITS TAM, the project that involved the students in the creation of the waistcoat has come to an end

The pilot project between Marchi & Fildi Group and the course for Higher Technician for Design and Development of Knitwear Products at the ITS TAM (Higher Institute for Textiles, Clothing and Fashion) in Biella has come to an end.

The initiative involved the students of the 2° year of this course for the creation and development of a unique garment using the yarns of the SS 2023 Flat Knitting Collection of the brands Marchi & Fildi and Filidea.

The project’s primary garment is the waistcoat. Rediscovered by fashion in recent collections, the waistcoat is a unisex, seasonless garment, and constitutes an “easy”, basic garment for all types of interpretation; a creative representation of the values of modern fashion research:
– Sustainability
– Gender Fluid
– Seasonless

Thanks to the supervision by Fausto Caletti, the stylist that has been developing the yarns collections of Marchi & Fildi and Filidea, and by the professors of ITS TAM, the students were required to create waistcoats in knitwear using yarns from the Spring/Summer 2023 collections by Marchi & Fildi and Filidea in the colours included in the overview cards. During their creative work, the students measured themselves not only in terms of the ideation of the finished garments, but also the total number of the steps for their execution within the framework of the project: from the creation of the moodboards, to the choice of knitting stitches and the test of the garment prototypes.

The showcase of the project was the the 90th edition of Pitti Filati in February 2022, where the original garments made by the students were shown inside the booths of Marchi & Fildi and Filidea, giving to the visitors a contemporary interpretation of the yarns, following the key values of the brand.

According to an evaluation based on technical, didactic and aesthetic elements of each creation, the Group has offered two scholarships to the Students Camilla Guarnieri, who used the yarn Kim of the Filidea collection, and Jonila Selmanaj, who used the yarn Victoria by Marchi & Fildi.

The project was born with the goal to give the students an occasion to face with the needs of the production system, a realistic simulation of different cases that they will meet as knitting designers. The results were excellent and the waistcoats attracted the attention of the visitors inside our booths at Pitti Filati” is the comment of Mr. Giovanni Marchi, Director of Marchi & Fildi.

Students took the challenge with a lot of enthusiasm. With the supervision of the professors in the laboratories located in Magnonevolo, they faced with Fausto Caletti, they imagined and created the garments according to their personal interpretations. This experience was strongly constructive and in particular gave them the possibility to express their creativity. For our Institute the collaboration was very significative and gave an important visibility to our school and to our students’ workSilvia Moglia, Director of ITS TAM.
